The kids and I made some art today with salt and food coloring using a combination of techniques (salt painting, drip painting).
The materials were all things I had around the house - salt, food coloring, contact paper, droppers, and q-tips:
I put the contact paper (sticky-side up) in a tray, and invited the girls to shake salt on it:
I shook off the excess salt. Then the girls dripped water colored with food-coloring onto the contact paper using q-tips, cotton balls, and medicine droppers:
Occasionally, I helped the girls pick up one side and let the drops of color run down the sheet. The final effect was really interesting:
This is one of those art projects that doesn't quite create a final product that can be displayed easily (I think it would be too messy to hang up), but the process was a lot of fun for the kids and they loved creating something beautiful.
I am so glad that your picture included the image of the package of contact paper. I've seen it mentioned on other homeschool craft blogs, but I've never been able to figure out what it was! I'll have to look for it next time I'm at the store.
