The whole family has been fighting some sort of a cold over the past 2 weeks. The kids had horrible coughs for a week, followed by a day of earaches and fever. Baby H had a fever for 4 days straight, rising as high as 103.7 which freaked me out. I ended up with an acute sinus infection which is just now clearing up. Needless to say, homeschool preschool took a back seat as we focused on getting healthy. The kids ended up watching a lot of television when they weren't feeling well. I did scatter some learning experiences here and there depending on how everyone was doing. Here are a couple of the things we did..
When the girls were pretty much over their colds and feeling much better, they literally begged for "preschool", so I made up a lot of ad-hoc activities like matching magnets to starting letter sounds. Working in reverse (i.e. "find an object that starts with the letter 'S'") is harder for them. The girls are still fairly hard (for other people) to understand because they don't say a lot of letter blends properly ("st", "cl", etc..). Of course they understand each other perfectly well so there isn't a lot of incentive to correct their speech. My husband and I have been trying to get them to work on listening to (and correcting) their pronunciation. I think a lot more activities related to starting/ending word sounds and spelling will help (for example, L had a hard time figuring out that clock starts with "C" because she pronounces the "cl" sound in a really strange way).
We've been working on some new worksheets for improving all sorts of cognitive skills, which the girls really love.
Painting has been a favorite activity this week. It's neat seeing the improvement that kids are making in their painting skills (staying in the lines, knowing when to dip in the water, etc..) just over a couple painting sessions.
There's lots of room for creativity, too. L made a painting of Spring and hung it on the window so the trees would see it and start growing their leaves back so winter will be over.
My husband had to take photos of my shopping habits for a graduate class in Marketing. Of course my shopping habits involve buying everything online on Amazon, but going to the mall makes for better photos. The girls had fun smelling perfumes, reading signs, trying on shoes, etc.. I think this was the only time the kids and I left the house over the past two weeks because we were all so sick and miserable the rest of the time.
