This simple learning activity doesn't take many materials or preparation, but it boosts all sorts of cognitive abilities in your little ones...
Simply make a line down the center of a piece of paper and draw a picture on one side for your child to copy on the other side. My girls (almost 4 years old) really enjoy working on these picture copying activities. We've just started a geography curriculum and this is a great intro to mapping skills because they need to pay attention to where each part of the picture it located on the paper and then translate it to their own side of the drawing.
We're still working on looking carefully to see how each component of the picture is oriented in relation to the other components. Next week I'm going to try to get the girls to copy drawings as they would look in a mirror, and then rotation will be next. I love watching their brains at work!
