Silly Creature Drawing Prompt {There's a Wocket in My Pocket}

March is National Reading Month and we're going to celebrate by trying to do a book-related activity every day.  It may be as simple as a little craft or acting out the story, but I'll also try to add some themed units into the mix as well.  We got an early start today by doing a little drawing prompt based on the book There's a Wocket in my Pocket by Dr. Seuss..

After reading the girls the story (and having them complete the rhymes as we read), I asked them to find some objects around the house and make up funny creatures that live on them.  We had a great time inventing all sorts of strange critter, and it was a wonderful exercise in rhyming as well.  Then I asked them to draw their creatures.  Here's what they came up with...

They ended up a bit on the abstract side, but the prompt got the kids' imaginations really going.  E's Zuppy (on her puppy) eats bones and she drew how they go into its stomach.  L's Zish (on the fish) rides on the fish to an island where he lives and eats carrots.
