Foil Sculptures

The girls really enjoyed making foil sculptures last week (using aluminum foil over pipe cleaners).  This project came from the Usborne Art Treasury book in the study of a sculptor named Alberto Giacometti.  It was a nice change to incorporate some three dimensional art in our artist studies...

Sculpting with pipe cleaners was a lot of fun (we do this a lot).  Getting the figures to stand was more of a challenge, even when we used Playdoh for the feet.  The girls cut their own strips of aluminum foil to wrap around their sculptures.  They concentrated on their work and didn't get frustrated when things didn't turn out quite right.

The finished foil sculptures had a lot of personality.  We had a good time making up stories about who they were and what they were doing.
